The first thing I did after seeing the new Prada collection was to search for a vintage fur-trimmed green boucle coat. (For the tights I like this patterned pink pair from Falke).
I used to wear vintage fur-trimmed coats all the time (2012 and 2013 above!!) but stopped once I started going to shows and getting photographed (because I didn’t want the photos to end up in a magazine or online without being able to add the disclaimer that the fur was vintage). I feel like these days, we can have a more nuanced discussion around fur. I’ve never bought new, but I like wearing vintage because it’s warm and I think it’s more respectful / environmentally friendly to wear it versus destroying or wearing fake fur (which is horrible for the planet).
This week in Milan!
There are so many wonderful vintage fur options and not very expensive (especially on Ebay and Etsy).
While the headgear was incredibly cool this season, it’s very specific and therefor hard to vintage shop. If you’re looking for one of these sunglass hats, best chance is to look for 1960s novelty straw hats like this one.
Something I didn’t notice until looking back at the Prada photos today, is that this fur collar was printed! I loved that! A great way to get the look of fur without having to take it from an animal.
The rubber-dipped platform sandals, originally from Fall 2012, reappeared on the runway this season along with other re-editions. Although I have both, I’ll always prefer the derbies. A pair still available (for now) on Resee.
The hats at Marni were fantastic (the whole collection was incredible) and really showed that dramatic hats are here to stay. These had a vague sailor feeling to them, which I really like for Spring.
Another trend I’ve been seeing so far this season is peplums (which thank god - as we’ve been lacking in skirt volume forever). I saw a lot of peplums at Bally this afternoon too. Plus there’s the whole Ferragamo ballerina thing.
The wonderful beaded and embellished flapper shift dresses hot-off-the Fendi Spring 2025 runway stopped me in my scroll the other day. There are so many great vintage beaded flapper dresses (center above is a personal fav from 1stdibs).
It seems as though it’s been a good season so far, and very good for vintage fanatics. Were there other things you’ve seen that you like so far, or are hoping will pop up next week? Excited to see what Paris brings us!
xx
